The 1989 Parker Brothers edition of Pente is a classic, fast-paced abstract strategy board game for 2 players (or teams) aged 8 and up. Players take turns placing glass stone markers on grid intersections, aiming to get five stones in a row or capture five pairs of opponent stones. Core Rules & Objectives Winning by Alignment: Place 5 or more of your stones in a continuous row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). Winning by Capture: Capture 5 pairs of your opponent's stones. Capturing Pieces: Jump or bookend an adjacent pair of your opponent's stones by placing your own piece so that the pair is tightly trapped between two of your stones. Captured stones are removed from the board. Gameplay MechanicsThe First Move: The first player must place their opening stone directly on the center intersection (marked with a star). Opening Restriction: An optional classic rule dictates that the second player can place anywhere, but the first player's second placement must be at least three intersections away from the center. Turn Flow: Play alternates back and forth with pieces placed on the grid intersections (not inside the squares).
